George Elbert Knight III, of Abingdon, Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Roanoke, Virginia, George was the son of the late George Elbert Knight Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Tate Knight. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara LaRue Knight, whose love and companionship were the foundation of his life.
George was a graduate of William Fleming High School and went on to attend East Tennessee State University, where he studied economics. He dedicated his professional career to the insurance industry, serving as an Insurance Claims Manager. He was respected for his integrity, strong work ethic, and commitment to helping others.
Outside of work, George found great joy in woodworking and birdwatching. Whether crafting something with his hands or quietly observing nature, he appreciated life's simple pleasures and the beauty of the outdoors.
Above all, George cherished his family. He is survived by his son, Kirk Knight and wife, Cathy; his daughter, Kim Lando and husband, Chris; his sister, Judy Hill; and his treasured grandchildren, Corey, Christopher, Connor, Meredith, Madilyn, Audrey Kate, Lila, Zach, Audrey, Matthew, and Charlie; as well as seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three nieces and nephews, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
George will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, faithful friend, and a man of quiet strength and kindness. His legacy lives on through the values he instilled in those who knew and loved him.
A celebration of George's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Ed Lilly officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 1:50 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
