Gladys “Toodle” Scott Snead ,93, a lifelong resident of Washington County, Virginia, was born December 28, 1930. After several years of declining health, she passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the home of her sister, Patricia Scott Moore. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bryan Scott and Mary Scott. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Cosby Snead, and their only son, Michael Lewis Snead.
She is survived by three grandchildren, Jewel “Punky” Raines, Lewis Cosby Snead, and Bryan Scott Snead. They were the light of her world and the loves of her life. She is also survived by two sisters, Luedell Scott Bailey and Patricia Scott Moore, both of Abingdon, Virginia. She is also survived by three nephews and several great nephews and nieces. She is survived by her best friend, Lydia Brtan, whom she was friends with since the first grade at Blackwell Chapel School.
Gladys was a 1949 graduate of Bethel High School. She later graduated from The Mary Frye School of Business. She was employed at Johnston Memorial Hospital for several years. After that, she worked at Abingdon Grocery, which later became Mid Mountain foods. She retired as payroll manager after 32 years of service.
The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to Dr. Mark Handy, Home Nursing Care Hospice Company, and family friends Sharon Musick and Mike Stevens for their loving care during her illness.
Friends and family are asked to meet for a graveside service 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Knollkreg Memorial Park. Reverend Lisa Harr Bryant will officiate. Pallbearers will be Lewis Snead, Bryan Snead, Edward Clint Harris III, Kaitlin Owens, Mike Hoback and Lorie Stevens.
In lieu of flowers, Gladys requests donations be made to the Benevolence Fund at Blackwell Chapel UMC, which she first attended as a child and then later returned to for the past several years. The address is Blackwell Chapel United Methodist Church, 8329 Blackwell Chapel Road, Meadowview, VA 24361
