Jack Singleton

Jack was born in the rolling hills of Washington County, VA to a large family that would grow to include 9 children. His youth was spent with his siblings and cousins, chasing cattle through the hills and fishing along the banks of the river – without shoes whenever possible. At 17 he entered the United States Air Force and proudly served 20 years across the country and across the world. He enjoyed fishing at every assignment, but he found love in the wide-open plains of Kansas. He returned home to raise his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren – and cattle on the land that he loved. With his two hands and the help of his brothers, cousins, and nephews he built a house, and with the help of his wife he built a home full of love.

He shared his knowledge of nature, rifles, and love of westerns with his children and often demonstrated that nothing was impossible and lived his frequent saying that “you can do anything you put your mind to”. He was always ready to catch a black snake, and willing to dance at your wedding. He found God as a young man at a tent revival in Wyndale and was baptized at Faith Baptist Church. He saw so much change in the world around him and carried the traditions of his family into the future for 91 years. But most of all he spread love to everyone who joined his growing family who he cared for so deeply. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and children only a few feet from where he was born.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, his 8 brothers and sisters, and nieces and nephews who all meant so much to him.

He will be missed by his wife Joneen Singleton, his daughter Paula Singleton Nichols and husband Billy Nichols, his son Alex Singleton, his son John Singleton and wife Candy Singleton. His grandchildren, Hunter Nichols, Aiesha Singleton, Dylan Nichols, Erika Nichols, Ashlyn Brown, Connor Nichols, Rylee Nichols, Ethan Singleton, Caden Singleton, Maddie Singleton, and Jackson Singleton. His great-grandchildren August Singleton, Jensen Nichols, and Avery Nichols. His brothers and sisters in-law, Mel and Janet Ralston, Hap and Jean Ramsey and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday, September 29th, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Farris Funeral Home in Abingdon, VA. Everyone is invited to the graveside service where he will be laid to rest with his family on Wednesday at 11:00 am at Rust Cemetery with Jimmy Singleton officiating. Military honors will be provided by Shaw Air Force Honor Guard and Highlands Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Alex Singleton, John Singleton, Billy Nichols, Ethan Singleton, Jackson Singleton, Caden Singleton, Hunter Nichols, Dylan Nichols and Conner Nichols. Honorary pallbearers will be Aiesha Singleton, Ashlyn Brown, Erika Nichols, Rylee Nichols and Maddie Singleton.

Pappy will be deeply missed and always remembered by all who knew him. And yes Pappy, we know who loves us.
