James "Dickie" Hutton, Jr.

James “Dickie” Hutton, Jr., age 80, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va. and was a member of the last graduating class from Glade Spring High School. Jim spent most of his working years with VDOT and he retired from there as a Signal Superintendent. He served our country in the United States Air Force, something for which he was very proud. Jim truly loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, boating, and fishing with his wife, Phyliss, and other members of his family. Phyliss laughs when she is talking about meeting Jim for the first time. Seems that she ran him into a ditch while traveling on the “4 lane” in Wytheville, Va.

Jim was predeceased by his parents James and Jessee Baldwin Hutton, Sr., and sister Willa Mae Hamilton.

He is survived by his wife Phyliss Sowers Hutton, son Jimmy Hutton of Damascus, Va., daughters Jodie Hutton of Bluff City, TN and Tina Allison of Greeneville, TN, sister Delores Wagner of Glade Spring, Va., step-son Mark Halsey of Wytheville, Va., 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
