James Everett “Jim” Tate passed away on July 17, 2024 after a short illness.
Jim was born on May 4, 1946. He graduated from Mt. Hope High School in Mt. Hope, West Virginia. He received his undergraduate and Masters degree from West Virginia University. He is a United States Air Force veteran.
Jim was employed by United Coal Company and he was President and CEO of United Supply of Bristol, Virginia. Next to his family, he loved country and bluegrass music, motorcycles and horses.
Jim was preceded in death by his son and best friend, James K. “Jim” Tate; his perfect mom, Pearl Matney Tate; four brothers, Dennis and Glen Blankenship, and Leo and Don Tate; three sisters, Sandy Powell, Joann Smoot and Janice Hudson.
Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lola; one brother, Brad Tate and wife Diana; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Tate Hubbard and son-in-law Tom; two very treasured grandchildren, Nick and Natalie Hubbard; one sister-in-law, Linda Light Tate; and a very special great niece, Miss Lola Renee Lopez. Many nieces, nephews and special friends also survive.
Jim was a good man. He is truly loved and will be missed.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Forest Hills Chapel of Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, Virginia. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor David Robins officiating. The committal service will be following the funeral at Colonial Chapel Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Jim will be laid to rest beside his son, James Kent. Military honors will be presented by the United States Air Force and Highlands Veterans Honor Guard.
