Joanne Bunn Ross

Joanne Bunn Ross, 97, of Abingdon, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on May 5, 2026, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Joanne was born in 1929 in Wayne County, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Eris D. Bunn and Ina Davis Bunn.

She was a beloved member of the Abingdon Ageless Angels, an honorary member of the Kentucky Colonels, a member of Presbyterian Women, and a member of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church in Abingdon.

Joanne was known for her delightful and caring personality, her love of playing bridge, and her ability to win relentlessly at Yahtzee with her friends.

A former elementary school teacher, Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Paul D. Ross, and their son, Craig Stephen Ross. She was also preceded in death by her seven siblings: Claudia Dunkle, Zelda Bunn, Max Bunn, Ben Bunn, Delmas Bunn, Homer Bunn, and Omer Bunn.

Joanne is survived by her son, Paul D. Ross, Jr., of Palm Coast, Florida; and three grandchildren: James A. Ross and wife, Kelly, of Glade Spring, Virginia; Kelly Jo Kinsey and husband, Derek, of Huntington, West Virginia; and Joshua Ross and wife, Shelli, of Huntington, West Virginia.

She is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Autumn Goodson of Abingdon, Virginia; Darry Lybrand of Kitts Hill, Ohio; and James A. Ross II of Saltville, Virginia; as well as ten great-great-grandchildren.

Farris Funeral Service of Abingdon, Virginia, is handling arrangements, with a private burial to be held. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church in Abingdon, Virginia, with Rev. Kevin Campbell officiating.
