John Massillon Heuser, born May 14, 1941, in Norton, Virginia, passed away on August 11, 2026, in Abingdon, Virginia. He was 85 years old, and his life was marked by dedication, service, and commitment to the people and communities he held dear.

Mr. Heuser was the beloved husband of Morgan Heuser. He is survived by his daughter, Tara Laptew (Matthew), and granddaughter, Colette Laptew. Additionally, he leaves behind his stepdaughter, Kelly Gold (Eric); stepson, Brad McLean; grandsons, Sam Gold and Harrison Gold; and his sister, Elizabeth Ramsey. He also is remembered fondly by numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his father, Massillon Heuser, and his mother, Meryl Heuser.

A lifelong learner, John Heuser pursued higher education with vigor, completing his undergraduate studies at Greensboro College before attending the School of Law at Loyola University. These formative years shaped the values and work ethic that would mark his distinguished professional career.

In service to his country, John spent three years in the United States Army. His assignments took him to Korea, where he contributed notably on the medical side, aiding personnel. This chapter of his life reflected his strong sense of duty and compassion for others.

Following his military service, John devoted his professional life to the practice of law in Abingdon, Virginia. He gained respect and recognition for his expertise in Social Security Disability cases, becoming a trusted advocate for many in need. Throughout his career, he exemplified professionalism, diligence, and a profound desire to help others find resolution and security.

A burial service honoring John Massillon Heuser will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico on August 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, Virginia.
