John Henley Williams

John Henley Williams, born on May 2, 1929, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2023, having lived a long and deeply meaningful life. John’s journey through nearly a century was marked by devotion to his family, quiet strength, and the warmth he brought to everyone lucky enough to know him.

John was the beloved husband of Virginia Ellen Haywood Williams, with whom he shared many cherished years of partnership and companionship. Together, they nurtured a family filled with love and resilience. He was a devoted father to Mike Williams, whose life and successes brought him great pride, and to his late son, Larry Thomas, whose memory remains an enduring part of the Williams family story. John also welcomed Diana, his daughter-in-law, into the family, grateful for the happiness and support she offered.

John’s legacy is carried on by his grandchildren—Graydon, Danielle, Rhiannon, Sara, and Claire—each of whom reflect his kindness and curiosity in their own unique ways. His presence as a grandfather was a source of joy, inspiration, and guidance. That same legacy lives on through his great-grandchildren, Olivia, Emery, and Charles Randall, who inherit the strength of his gentle character and steadfast values. John was also dearly remembered by his nephews and nieces, as well as many other extended family members and friends.

Throughout his life, John honored the memory of his parents, Lonnie Thomas Williams and Lolo Venus Sloan, whose influence shaped his enduring integrity and compassion. The passing of his son, Larry Thomas, marked another profound chapter in the family’s shared history, yet John’s resilience and loving presence provided comfort and continuity for those around him.

A private graveside service will be held in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
