Jonathan Jared Clay, affectionately known as Jon, was born on October 5, 1967, in Houston, Texas. He departed this life on May 15, 2025, in Bristol, Tennessee, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and affection.
Jon dedicated 13 years of his life to serving in the Army, a commitment that shaped his character and instilled in him a profound sense of duty. After his military service, he transitioned to a career as an insurance agent, where his engaging personality and ability to connect with others made him a valued member of the community.
A graduate of Abingdon High School and the University of Virginia at Wise with a degree in Business Administration. Those who knew him often remarked, "You never saw him without a smile." His sense of humor and commitment to spreading joy enriched the lives of many, making him a cherished friend and companion.
Jon had a variety of interests and hobbies that he passionately pursued. He enjoyed football, indulged in wood-working, and had a love for writing. His fascination with history and old movies added layers to his personality, allowing him to engage with others in thoughtful conversations and lively discussions.
Above all, Jon's proudest accomplishment was his relationship with his wife, Shea A. Clay. Their bond was one of mutual respect, love, and support, a testament to the deep connection they shared throughout their years together.
Jon is survived by his loving wife, Shea, and his siblings: Lillie, Teresa, Dennis, Caroline, Rebecca, Mindi, Robin, Rachel and Stephen. He was preceded in death by his father, William Clay, and mother, Lillie Clay and brother David. Dogs: Roscoe, Olive, Stella, Charlie, Lucy, and Ruby Jo. Cats: Peanut and Curly.
Visitation services will be held on May 19, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service 19415 Lee Hwy, Abingdon, VA 24210.
Jon’s presence will be profoundly missed, but his memory will continue to illuminate the lives of those who had the privilege to know him.
