June Knack Bjerke

June Knack Bjerke went to be with her heavenly father on April 18, 2024. June was born June 14, 1930, in Town of Tonawanda, New York. She met her future husband at work, and they married in 1960. She moved from Tonawanda, New York to Abingdon, Virginia  in 1973 when her husband’s job was transferred. June was a devoted and dedicated wife and mother, always there for her family with support and love. She enjoyed making a house a home with her interior decorating skills and enjoyed tending to the landscaping in her yard and gardens. June kept active in her younger years playing golf and bicycling with her husband and daughter. Crafting and needlework were joys in her life until arthritis and old age took away those abilities. June was a lifelong Lutheran and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church since moving to Abingdon. She enjoyed spending time with her St. John church friends in the quilting group and bible study groups in her later years until she was no longer able.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Rose Knack, and her husband of 46 years, Carlton William Bjerke. She is survived by her loving daughter, Barbara Bjerke, and her special grand-dog, Sadie, who will treasure the wonderful memories of happy times spent together.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. John Lutheran Church or a charity of choice.

June’s funeral service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church. Visitation will begin at 4:00pm with the funeral service following at 5:00pm. The graveside service will be the following day, April 23, 2024, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens at 11:00am with Pastor Elise Anderson officiating. All are welcome.
