Larry Dean Belcher, a cherished figure known for his kindness and devotion to family, passed away on October 30, 2025, in Abingdon, Virginia. Born on July 2, 1938, in West Virginia, Larry brought joy to all who knew him, colored by a vibrant spirit and a profound love for those he held dear.
Larry dedicated his life to the service of others, working diligently as a Personnel Coordinator at Eastern Associated Coal Corporation. His work ethic and unwavering commitment to his job earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike. Larry’s penchant for kindness extended beyond his professional life; it was woven into his very being. He loved spending time with family, creating precious memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
He had a profound appreciation for life’s simple pleasures—spending afternoons reading a good book, watching his favorite baseball games, and sharing moments of laughter and camaraderie with his neighbors. Larry possessed an adventurous spirit, with a deep-rooted interest in aviation, embodying a quality of curiosity that endeared him to many.
Larry's military service in the Navy, where he received the Good Conduct Medal, speaks volumes of his character; a testament to his commitment to honor and service.
He is survived by his loving family, including his son Kevin Belcher (Lori) and daughter Karin Widener (Jeff), who will cherish him forever. He was a proud "Pop Pops" to Nick Widener (fiancé Heather), Kaylan Salyer (Matt), Shane Belcher (Mikayla), and Nathan Widener (fiancé Ashlee), often taking joy in the laughter and accomplishments of his grandchildren. As a great-grandfather, he delighted in the joy brought by Jensen Salyer, Holland Salyer, Ledger Dean Salyer, Cohen Jett Widener, and Claire Elaine Belcher and also, Michael Weber who Larry thought of as a grandson.
Larry is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Nancy Earle Belcher, whose love and partnership were the cornerstone of his life. He is also reunited with his parents, Paul and Ida Mae Belcher, who laid the foundation for the remarkable man he became.

Visitation will be held at Farris Funeral Service – Main Street Chapel in Abingdon on November 1, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, allowing family and friends the opportunity to pay their respects. A graveside service will take place on November 2, 2025, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Beckley, West Virginia, beginning at 2:00 PM, where he will be laid to rest.
Larry Dean Belcher's legacy will live on through the love he shared and the lives he touched. He was a man of great substance, a beloved family member, and a friend to many. He will be forever remembered, deeply missed, and cherished by all whose lives he graced.
