Laura Ruby Hurd Craig

Abingdon, Va. – Laura (Ruby) Hurd Craig, age 74, went home to be with her Lord and savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 13,2022. She fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. Laura was the daughter of the late Frank and Annis Christian. Laura was a graduate of Walters State Community College (nursing program). She attended the Free Zion Baptist Church in Abingdon, Va.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James and Otis Christian. Her sister, Louise Skeens and her son Jay Craig, and her late husband Paul Hurd.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne Craig, her daughter, Michelle Shelton and husband Glen Shelton, her sons, Jason Hurd, Brad Craig and wife Stacey Craig, Doug Craig and wife Mary Craig. Laura had 10 grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Brooke Graham and Tyler Shelton, Autumn and Summer Hurd, Cameron, Andrew and Caroline Craig, Madison, Claire and Clark Craig; three sisters, Lois Lisenby, Frances Monroe, Shirley Lampkins, and one brother, Gene Christian.

Laura loved the Lord and was a great prayer warrior to everyone she knew. She gave her testimony and witnessed to everyone she met. She was impressed upon by God to start a food pantry at her church where God provided for many families every month. Laura was a kind, loving and generous person who never met a stranger.

Visitation will be held at the Main Street location of Farris Funeral Home in Abingdon, Va. on Friday, December 16, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Highlands Fellowship Church. Rev. Tyler Vencill, Rev. Shannon Smith and Rev. Mike Norris will be officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Knollkreg Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Glen Shelton, Tyler Shelton, Ryan Graham, Cameron Craig, Matt Bralley and honorary pallbearer, Andrew Craig.
