Lynn Sweet

Abingdon, VA – Lynn Ann Cornett Sweet, age 88, passed on Thursday, March 21, 2024, Commonwealth Senior Living.  Lynn was a graduate of Damascus High School and worked as a registered nurse for many years at Johnston Memorial Hospital.  She was a member of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church.

Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Amanda Vannoy Cornett; husband, Charles William Sweet; son, William Michael Sweet; six siblings, Paul Cornett, Henry Cornett, Margaret McCready, Lucille Evans, Martha Lee Bellamy, and Grace Wingard; and son-in-law, Phil Minnick.  

She is survived by her daughter, Jill Sweet Minnick; special friends who she considered family, Josh, Natalie, Daylin, Peyton, and A.J. Linkous; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be held 4:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2024, in Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church.  Funeral services will follow at 5:00 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Campbell officiating.  Committal services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Josh Linkous, Daylin Linkous, Peyton Linkous, A.J. Linkous, and Hal Cornett.  Sam Evans and Rex Cornett will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the Linkous family and the staff of Commonwealth Senior Living for the wonderful care they provided for Mrs. Sweet.  Also, a special thank you is extended to Dr. Tim McGarry, who was Lynn’s physician as well as her friend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church, 136 East Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210, in Mrs. Sweet’s name.
