Margaret Ann Widner Hawkins, age 73, of Abingdon, Virginia, passed away on July 7, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family and loved ones. Margaret showed incredible strength and passed away peacefully after a lengthy health journey.
Margaret was born on May 22, 1953, at her family home in Dentons Valley to the late Goldie Rutherford Widner and Joseph Widner.
Margaret was a licensed cosmetologist for 26 years. She began her career as a hairstylist at Rich’s Hair Salon before continuing her career at Kuttin Krew for several years. In 2001, Margaret opened her own salon, Shear Creations, where she spent the last years of her career. Margaret truly loved her work and found great joy in caring for her clients, many of whom became dear friends over the years. For her, doing hair was about much more than a career, it was a way to connect with others, share in their lives, and care for the people around her.
Margaret cherished time spent with her family, especially traveling together and taking trips to the beach. She found joy in life’s simple moments, like sitting on her front porch with a cup of coffee and watching her great grandchildren play in the yard. Margaret faithfully attended Highlands Fellowship until her health no longer allowed her to do so. Margaret lived her faith each day through her kindness, generosity, and love.
Above all, Margaret loved her family deeply and treasured the time she spent with those she loved. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who found her greatest joy in her family.
Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Marvin Hawkins; her children, Craig Hawkins (Stephanie) of Abingdon, Virginia, Kristen Neal (Keith Phelps) of Bristol, Tennessee, and Chad Hawkins of Roebuck, SC; her grandchildren, Cody Hawkins, Austin Hawkins, Jacob Neal (Savannah Johnson), Brock Hawkins, and Conner Hawkins; and her great-grandchildren, Braylien Easterling, Ellie Grace Hawkins, Maddox Hawkins, Hallie Hawkins, and Baylor Hawkins. She is also survived by her sisters, Sharon Blevins (Billy) and Rita Johnson (Dennis); sister-in-law, Myrtle Widener Jones; and many special nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her brother, James Widener; sister, Rhonda Roberts; and granddaughter, Haley Neal.
