In Loving Memory of Margaret Ann Torbett - Born on April 9, 1938 – Passed Away on November 3, 2024
It is with deep sorrow, but also with profound gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret Ann Torbett, who left this world on November 3, 2024, at the age of 86. Her spirit now rests in the loving arms of the Lord, and she is reunited with those who have gone before her.
Ann was born in Gate City, Virginia on April 9, 1938 to parents Richard and Lula Mae Fleenor. Ann spent her younger years in Bristol, Virginia and graduated Virginia High School. Later in life she returned to school and became a Medical Assistant and she loved working in the OB/GYN office. Ann and Phil met during their high school years and began dating at 15 years old. They instantly fell in love and were married June 29, 1957 and they have been soulmates for over 67 years. She was a woman of great faith, who lived each day guided by her unwavering trust in God and her love for those around her. She exemplified the teachings of compassion, kindness, and grace. Through her words and actions, she showed us how to live with humility, how to love without measure, and how to always look to the Divine for strength and guidance.
A devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ann was a pillar of her family and a source of endless love and wisdom. Her hands, which held us through life’s joys and sorrows, are now in the hands of the Creator, who has called her home. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service to others that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Ann is survived by her loving spouse, Philip Torbett; sister, June Musick; children, Rick Torbett and his wife Ursula, Vickie Kaylor and her husband Mike; seven grandchildren, Crystal, Amber, Blake, Alex, Austin, Chelsea and Jorden; and seven great-grandchildren, Savannah, Elise, Arabella, Lily, Eve, Grant, Noah, Damien, Preston; and many others who were blessed to share in her warmth and wisdom. Ann is predeceased by her sister Reba Stophel.
Ann was a devout Christian at the Abingdon Church of Christ and her faith was the foundation of her life. She found comfort in prayer, solace in the Scriptures, and joy in the fellowship of her church and community. Her faith gave her strength during times of trial, and she shared that strength with all who were fortunate enough to know her.
We take comfort in knowing that she is now in the presence of the Lord, where there is no more pain or suffering, only eternal peace and joy. Her spirit will forever remain with us, and her love will continue to guide and bless us.
A viewing will be open to visitors on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 4:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 6:00 pm at the Abingdon Church of Christ to celebrate her life and the many ways she touched our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Tri Cities School of Preaching in honor of her memory.
A special thank you to many who have been friends and provided spiritual guidance through the years. Especially Brad and Pat McCoy, Dan and Charlotte Bailey, Eddy Craft, and Bill Haywood.
