Marieda Crabtree Campbell

Marieda Crabtree Campbell, 89, of Abingdon, VA passed away on Monday, September 7th, 2026 at NHC Healthcare in Kingsport, TN.

Marieda was born on September 3, 1937, in Rochester, New York to Otis and Emma Ruth Crabtree. She attended Radford University, where she majored in Interior Design where her love of creativity and design began and was always at the core of who she was.

Marieda owned Designing Interiors in Abingdon, VA, with her daughter, Rhonda Campbell Miller, for 30 years. Her eye for design and decorating was truly unlike anyone else’s. She had an incredible ability to look at something ordinary and immediately see its potential. With her creativity and attention to detail, she could transform a room, a piece of furniture, or even the smallest corner of a home into something beautiful. She loved taking something good and making it sparkle and shine with her own special touch.

Her love of beauty and design extended far beyond the walls of her home. Marieda had a true green thumb and an incredible love for flowers and plants. She could name nearly every flower or plant you showed her. Her love for flowers was most evident at her home. If you ever visited Marieda and WJ, you knew that their home would be beautiful both inside and out. Her flower boxes were always overflowing with the pinkest geraniums and some of the most beautiful flowers you had ever seen. The inside was that of a designing magazine with beautiful furniture, patterned drapes, and perfect decor. She took great pride in her home. But perhaps what made Marieda most special was not her incredible talent or her ability to create beautiful spaces, but it was the way she loved her people. She was hilarious, sweet, precious, and full of life. Marieda had a joy about her that was contagious, and she had a way of making the people around her feel loved and welcome.

Marieda was also deeply involved in her community and enjoyed being part of organizations that reflected her interests and love for others. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and The Garden Club for many years. Marieda also attended Pilgrim Baptist Church and Abingdon Bible Church for many years. God was her firm foundation and her faith was something she held close to her heart.

Above all, Marieda loved her family. Her family was one of the greatest joys of her life and she treasured the time she spent with the people she loved. Marieda is survived by her husband of 67 years William Jonas (WJ) Campbell, her two children, Kevin Campbell and Rhonda Miller (Rick), and her sister Glenda Lindstrom (Carl), her brother-in-law Curt Campbell (Jackie), and sister-in-laws Sue Oliver, Joyce Crabtree,and Deanna Crabtree.

Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy! She wanted nothing more than to be surrounded by her kids and grandkids. She is survived by 5 grandchildren: Derick Miller (Brittany), Ashton Morris (Max), Erin Farris (Mark), Campbell Provencher (Hunter), and Grayson Campbell. As well as 6 great grandchildren: Carson Miller, Dominic Provencher, Stetson Provencher, Alder Morris, Jack Provencher, and Wakely Morris. A special thank you to Lisa Weddle who helped a lot with Marieda and her care.

Marieda is predeceased by her parents, Otis and Emma Ruth Crabtree and her brothers, James Crabtree, and Mitchell Crabtree. Also, her sister-in-law Irene Odum (Jim).

Marieda leaves behind a beautiful legacy of creativity, joy, love, and family. She will be remembered for her unmistakable sense of style, her love of flowers, her beautiful home, her quick wit and hilarious personality, and most of all, the way she loved the people around her. She made life more beautiful simply by being a part of it.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 14th at 11:00 am at Knollkreg Memorial Park. We will follow immediately after with a celebration of life at The Barns at Chip Ridge.
