Mary Alice (Chapman) James entered this world on August 5, 1936, and departed this life on August 10, 2026. She was preceded in death by her mother Elizabeth Chapman; her husband, Kenwood Alan James; her daughter, Jessica Alan James; her son, Otis C. James; her brothers, Ronnie and Charles Chapman; and her granddaughter Davida Hazandrea.
She leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Jimmy Chapman (Pembroke, VA); two daughters, Deatrice Lynn James (Abingdon, VA) and Leslie Diane Webb (Lexington, KY). In addition, she leaves four grandchildren, Myles James (Abingdon, VA); Angela, Michael and Aneesha Webb all of Lexington, KY.
She leaves five great grandchildren, Akiyah, Avery, Alijah, Addison, and Ameila Webb.
She loved life and lived it to the fullest! She loved going for rides with her daughter Lynn. She liked working in the yard with her flowers. She liked to do word searches and crossword puzzles. She was also devoted to working with the laundry ministry. Most importantly, she loved serving the Lord and singing for the Lord. She always spread the news of Jesus wherever she went.
She had a career at Johnston Memorial Hospital where she worked until she left to take care of her husband.
Mary Alice also had a devoted and loyal friend in Nellie Foster.
In her last days she decided that she wanted to be home. We were blessed to celebrate her 90th birthday with her.
We will all miss our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She impacted our lives for the better. She never met a stranger. When she did not have words, she would simply sing about Jesus.
