Michael John Capparelli III, age 62, of Sykesville, Maryland passed away on Thursday morning, June 8th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family after a brief battle with pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare type of cancer.

Mike was born to the late Michael John Capparelli Jr. and Patricia Ann Capparelli in 1960 in New Hartford, NY. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduating, he moved to Maryland to start a job at Westinghouse, and later Northrop Grumman. While working full-time, he received his master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University. He was a dedicated employee with 41 years of service. He enjoyed playing softball in the Westinghouse/Northrop league, canoeing and fishing on Piney Run Lake, traveling with his wife, rooting for the Hokie sports’ teams, tending to a vegetable garden in his backyard, sharing his love of food, and most importantly, spending time with his growing family and many friends.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Trish; his devoted daughter, Kelsey Capparelli Diehl, husband Jon, and sweet baby granddaughter Mackenzie Diehl, of Laurel, MD; his loyal son, Michael Capparelli IV and wife, Lauren, of Brooklyn, NY; his mother, Patricia; his two brothers Steven, and wife Brenda, and Brian all of Rome, NY; and his sister Cindy and husband Jonn of Portland, OR.

Visitation with the family will take place at Haight Funeral Home, in Sykesville, MD on Tuesday, June 13th from 6-8pm.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 14th at 1 pm at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD. A graveside service and interment will be held at Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery, Glade Spring, VA on Friday, June 16th at 1 pm.

Gifts in memory of Mike may be directed to support Sarcoma Research at Johns Hopkins. Please make checks payable to Johns Hopkins University.
