Mildred Wynegar Kestner, of Glade Spring, VA, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, in Abingdon, VA, at the age of 86. Born on August 7, 1939, in Saltville, VA, Mildred’s life was one that touched family, friends, and her community profoundly, and her legacy will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
Mildred was the beloved daughter of the late James Clyde Wynegar and Lena Mae Sage Wynegar of Saltville. Throughout her life, she exemplified warmth, kindness, and constant devotion to those around her. She grew up in a lively, close-knit family and maintained deep connections with her siblings, cherishing both the joys and the memories they shared.
She is lovingly survived by her son, Kenneth Kestner, Jr., and her daughter, Deborah Bise and husband Mike. Mildred was a devoted mother whose gentle strength provided guidance and comfort to her children throughout the years. Her family circle extends to her grandchildren, Jeremy Bise and Jessica Bise, whose lives were enriched by her wisdom, encouragement, and compassionate heart. Mildred also leaves behind her great-grandchild, Eli Bise.
In addition to her immediate family, Mildred is survived by her brothers, Eddie Wynegar and wife Kathy, and Don Wynegar and wife Sharon, and her sisters-in-law, Dreama Wynegar and Roberta Wynegar, as well as several nieces and nephews. The bonds she shared with her siblings and their spouses testify to her loyalty and the enduring ties of family.
Mildred now joins in peaceful rest her father, James Clyde Wynegar; her mother, Lena Mae Sage Wynegar; her brothers, James Clyde Wynegar, Jr., Bart Wynegar, and Dan Wynegar; and her sisters, Joyce O’Quinn, Elizabeth Aistrop, Betty Henderson, and Margaret Harkleroad. The memory of their lives together remains treasured and honored by those who remain.
A visitation to honor Mildred’s memory will be held on Wedesday, July 8, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Farris Cremation & Funeral Center – Forest Hills Chapel, 19415 Lee HWY, Abingdon, VA 24210. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM at the same location with Pastor Rick Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
