Nona Pope Graybeal

Nona Pope Graybeal, of Abingdon, Va., age 88, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at her home. She was born to the late Kerman Alwood Pope and Hallie Iteria Largen Pope. She was a member of Spoon Gap Freewill Baptist Church.

She was separated in death from her husband of 67 years, Garland Denver “Rooster” Graybeal, by only one day. In addition to her parents and husband, Nona was also preceded in death by her brother, Homer Pope; five sisters, Lillie Roark, Diane Huff, Janie Norris, Icie Graybeal, and Edith Price; and two additional sisters who died in infancy, Dicie and Ora Pope.

She is survived by two sons, Billy Graybeal, James Graybeal and his special friend, Timmy Karen Harris, all of Abingdon, Va.; daughter, Susan Harless and husband, Wayne, of Abingdon, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2022, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Herbert Bailey officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to convene at the cemetery.
