Norma Jean Cox Reeves

March 7, 1936 — March 23, 2026

Bristol, VA

Norma Jean Cox Reeves, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished member of Suburban Christian Church, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, in Johnson City, Tennessee. Born Norma Jean Cox on March 7, 1936, in Williamsburg, Kentucky, she carried with her a legacy of warmth, dedication, and a life deeply rooted in family, faith, and community.

A proud graduate of Williamsburg High School, Norma furthered her education at Cumberland University, where she prepared for an early career as a lab technician. In 1961, she relocated with her family to Bristol, Virginia, where she would build a fulfilling life surrounded by loved ones, friends, and lasting community ties.

Norma was deeply engaged in activities that brought joy and enrichment not only to her own life, but also to those around her. She was an active participant in the swim club, an enthusiastic square dancer, and a member of the local camping club. She especially enjoyed reading, board games, cards, and bingo, pastimes she continued to share with others well into her later years. She spent her last three years as a resident of NHC Johnson City, where she developed close relationships with staff and fellow residents.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Lawrence Reeves, with whom she shared sixty-nine years of marriage, companionship, and love. Norma was the proud mother of two sons, Don Reeves of Gray, Tennessee, and Steven Reeves of South Riding, Virginia, each supported by their loving spouses, Merritt Reeves and Jody Kreuter, respectively. Her greatest joy was her family, and her legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Ethan, Rebekah, and Maura Reeves, and her great-grandchildren, Celeste and Sage Reeves.

Also surviving Norma are her siblings, Betty (Cox) McDaniel and Bert Cox Jr., along with numerous nieces and nephews who fondly remember her kindness and gentle spirit. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert Francis Cox Sr. and Bennie Lou Beams Cox, and by her brother, Jack Cox, all of whom are lovingly remembered by the family.
