Norman William Heron, age 82, passed away on January 15, 2024, in Abingdon, VA. His remarkable life was filled with numerous accomplishments and cherished memories.

Norman was born on June 20, 1941, in Flint, Michigan, to the late William J. Heron and Beatrice Newman Heron. He was a proud alumnus of the General Motors Institute, where he honed his engineering skills and prepared himself for an illustrious career. Norman's passion for engineering guided him throughout his life and played a pivotal role in shaping both his personal and professional journey.

Norman worked for General Motors at the Chevrolet V8 Engine Plant in Flint, MI for over 33 years. Throughout his tenure, he made significant contributions to the company's pursuit of excellence. His commitment to delivering quality work was unwavering, leaving an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Beyond his professional life, Norman possessed an extraordinary personality that immediately put people at ease. A kind and welcoming individual, he had mastered the art of making others feel comfortable in his presence. Whether it was lending an empathetic ear or providing a helping hand, Norman's compassion knew no bounds.

In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Heron.

Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Beverly L. Heron; one son, Scott William Heron; three grandchildren; and several friends.

Outside of work and family life, Norman found solace in a few beloved hobbies. He had an unwavering passion for Michigan football and would eagerly support his favorite team during every season. A lover of literature, he enjoyed turning the pages of various books that fed his curiosity about the world around him. Additionally, restoring old cars and attending car shows brought him immense joy, allowing him to indulge in his love for classic automobiles.

The family will receive friends from 3 pm until 4 pm on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Farris Funeral Service. A celebration of life service will follow at 4:00 pm with Pastor Allen Jessee officiating.
