Norman Harold Sutherland

Norman Harold Sutherland, age 83, of Bristol, Virginia, passed away on May 4, 2024 at his home surrounded by his children. He was born to the late William Sutherland and Julia May Owens Sutherland on April 27, 1941 in Dickenson County, Virginia. 

In addition to his parents, Norman is preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Tiny Lanie Sutherland; eight siblings, Earl, Garland, Clara Presley, Carol and Fern, Duane Sutherland, Jearl, and Lois Willis; and granddaughter, Ashley Sutherland.

Norman is survived by three children: Tim (Donna) of Abingdon, Virginia, Wade (Sarah) of Bristol, Virginia and Tandy (Lynn) of Bristol, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Thomas, Megan, Miranda, O'Brien, Destiny, Courtney, Matthew and Jonathan; and ten great grandchildren. 

Norman enjoyed vegetable gardening, bluegrass music, classic western shows, and gatherings with his friends and family.

Norman's family would like to extend a special thank you to Janie Gilbert and the Ballad Health Hospice team that helped care for him throughout the final months of life.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. with the funeral service following at 1:00 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Elder Garnell Gilbert and Elder Barrett McGlothlin officiating. A committal service will follow at Russell Memorial Cemetery where Tim, Wade, Tandy, Thomas, Matthew and Jonathan will be serving as pallbearers. Fred Osborne, O'Brien Williams and Tyler Arnold will be serving as honorary pallbearers.
