Patricia "Pat" Kilgore Denton

October 10, 1933 — February 14, 2026

Abingdon

Patricia Ann "Pat" (Kilgore) Denton, 92, of Abingdon, Virginia, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 14, 2026.

Patricia (Pat) had a full and well-lived life devoted to her faith, her family, her friends, and the farm she loved. She treasured the years she shared with her beloved husband, Kenneth Oren Denton, her four sons and daughters-in-law, her grandchildren and their spouses, her great-grandchildren, and many “extra” grandchildren and dear friends who lovingly called her Grandma.

She was born on October 10, 1933, in Coeburn, Virginia, to Emory Wise and Mary Kilgore. She grew up in Bristol, Tennessee, and at eighteen years old married Kenneth Oren Denton. They made their home in Abingdon, Virginia, where they built a life together on the family farm, Woodsview Dairy. She remained there until her passing, faithfully loving her family and welcoming all who walked through her door.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Emory Wise and Mary Kilgore; her husband, Kenneth Oren Denton; her sister, Dorothy “Dot” Howington; her brother, William “Hugh” Kilgore; and her grandson, Caleb Stephen Denton.

She is survived by her four sons and daughters-in-law: David and Martha Lynn Denton of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; Jim and Marie Denton of Abingdon, Virginia; Michael and Kathy Denton of Johnson City, Tennessee; and Stephen and Angela Denton of Abingdon, Virginia; her sister-in-law, Lucy Denton; her grandchildren and their spouses: Jonathan and Amanda Denton, Jennifer and Brandon Keener, Matthew and Tara Denton, Jessica and Josh Kirkland, Catherine Denton, James and Cha Cha Denton, Ashley and Robby Boles, Megan Denton, William Denton, Luke Denton, and Evan Denton; her 23 cherished great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Pat loved the Lord deeply and was a devoted Christian. Although she was homebound in her later years, she remained a member of Abingdon Bible Church. Her faith shaped her life and guided her love for her family and friends. She was known for her deep love of family, her warmth, her steady presence, and her ability to make everyone feel at home.

She found joy in rocking babies, cooking for loved ones, sharing stories, and visiting with others for hours on end. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and prayer, and her legacy will continue through the generations she nurtured.

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Virginia, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Greg Alderman officiating. The pallbearers will be her six grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Gray, Ben Abel, and William Mark Handy, MD. The family will receive friends following the service, and the burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for Pat’s various caregivers, especially for the special care provided by Fiona, Maria, Amedisys Home Health Care, and Elite Affinity Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105, in memory of her grandson, Caleb Stephen Denton.
