Pauletta "Carol" Looney Matney

Pauletta “Carol” Looney Matney, 78, went home to be with the Lord early in the morning on September 8, 2026.

Carol was born in Grundy, VA on October 27, 1947. She lived her life guided by her two priorities: her walk with God and her family. Everyone who knew her felt her love, usually in the form of food in their bellies.

She will be remembered for her love for her Savior Jesus and great witness. The many sacrifices she made for those in need and love for her community will not be forgotten.

Carol is survived by her husband, Rev. Ronald Matney and her children: Ron Matney (son Nolan), Vanessa Doane (husband Steve and children Jacob and Jennifer), James Matney (wife Leah and children Benjamin, Josie, and Ethan), John Matney (wife Kayla), Samuel Matney (wife Ashley and children Lakin and Lucy), Sarah Beaver (husband David and daughter Penelope), and Jessica Helton (husband Shawn and sons Eli and Jesse). She is also survived by her siblings Darrell Cochran, Christine Blankenship, and Mack Hale and their respective loving families. She was preceded in death by her mother Beatrice Cochran and stepdad William “Bill” Hale.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with a service to follow at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Shawn Helton and Pastor Jason Nunley officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with James Matney, Sam Matney, Ron Matney, John Matney, Benjamin Matney, and David Beaver serving as pallbears. Friends are asked to arrive at the cemetery on Friday for the graveside by 10:45 a.m.
