Pauline Greene Jones

Pauline Greene Jones, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on October 11, 2026, at the age of 88. She was born on May 20, 1938, in Wise, Virginia, and lived a life marked by devotion to education, faith, and family.

Mrs. Jones was an educator for nearly 45 years, serving students and school communities in Wise County Public Schools, Roanoke County Public Schools, and Washington County Public Schools. Her long career reflected a deep commitment to learning and to the lives of the many young people she taught and encouraged through the years.

She was a graduate of J.J. Kelly High School, attended Clinch Valley College, earned her bachelor’s degree from Radford University, and later received her master’s degree from the University of Virginia. Her dedication to education was not only the foundation of her profession, but also a lasting expression of her character and purpose.

Pauline was a member of North Star Baptist Church and had recently attended Colonial Heights Christian Church. Her faith remained an important part of her life and a steady presence through the years.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Greene; her mother, Hazel Cornett Greene; her husband, William Richmond “Bucky” Jones; her daughter, Carmen Haines; her sister, Sharon Gibson; her nephew, Wesley Barker; and her nieces, Debra Greene, Kristina Call, Ashley Greene, Laura Danielle Wampler, and Corey Woolwine.

She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Austin, and Melanie’s husband, Mike; her brothers, Chares Greene, Gary Greene, Ronnie Greene and his wife, Glenda, and Dennis Greene and his wife, Teresa; her sisters, Juanita Colley and her husband, Fred, Rita Call, Velma Barker and her husband, Marvin, Yvonne Wampler and her husband, Randy, Pam Woolwife and her husband, Jeff, Teresa Holbrook, and Denise O’Bryan and her husband, Mike. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Gary Gibson and his wife, Mary, and by her son-in-law, Steve Haines and his wife, Chyrl. She will be remembered with love by her family and by all who shared in her life.

Visitation will be held on October 16, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Farris Funeral Service – Main Street Chapel, 427 E Main St, Abingdon, Virginia 24210. A funeral service will follow there at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary Breeding officiating.  Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
