Philip Spencer Horn, Sr., affectionately known as Phil, was born on January 23, 1952, in Natchez, Mississippi, to the late Hugh Horn and Betty Lee Horn. Phil passed away at his home on Monday, May 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Phil dedicated his professional life to the field of land management, beginning his career as a Landman in 1975 before retiring as a land manager with Range Resources. His work was marked by a commitment to excellence and a profound understanding of the land and its resources.

An accomplished graduate of McComb High School, class of 1970, Phil was not only the president of the student body but also a celebrated athlete, earning the title of Most Outstanding Athlete. He excelled in multiple sports, lettering in football, basketball, baseball, and track, where he showcased his talent in pole vaulting and running. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi.

Loved ones will remember Phil not just for his career achievements but also for his contributions to the community as a devoted coach. He coached the Rockies 7-8 year old youth league baseball team and served as an All-Stars coach for ten years, leaving a lasting impact on countless young athletes.

An active individual, Phil cherished his time spent playing basketball at the Coomes Recreation Center on Thursdays and Saturdays since its opening. His vibrant spirit was evident during Wednesday nights spent around the firepit with friends and their dogs, which were among his most treasured moments.

In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his son, Philip Spencer Horn, Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Decie Horn; his daughter, Lesly Horn McHugh and her husband, Matthew McHugh; and his beloved grandchildren, Emory McHugh, Eden McHugh, and his running buddy Spencer McHugh. Phil's legacy also includes his siblings, Lou Ellen Montgomery, Dennis Horn and his wife, Shirley Payne Horn, and his sister-in-law Susan Johnson and her husband, Phil Johnson and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation honoring Phil's memory will be held on Sunday, May 11, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, located at 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210. A graveside service will be held at Knollkreg Memorial Park on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 2:00 pm and the funeral procession will leave from Forest Hills Memory Gardens on Monday at 1:30 pm. Honorary pallbearers will be Neil Knox, Dennis Sutherland, Jose Rodriguez, Ian Landon, Gus Janson, John Tidlow, Phil Johnson, Mike Pryor, and Jim Baldwin.

As Phil's family and friends gather to celebrate his life, they will remember a man of integrity, passion, and love who leaves behind a rich legacy of family, friendship, and community involvement.
