Rebecca Thompson Rush

Margaret Rebecca Thompson Rush, lovingly known as Becky, peacefully passed away at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon VA on April 1, 2024. She was born on April 9, 1937, in Washington County, VA, to the late Robert H Thompson and Louella Puckett Thompson.

Becky led a fulfilling life dedicated to her work and family. She worked as a bookkeeper her entire adult life, beginning at Colonial National Bank in Roanoke and various other businesses until her retirement from Bowie Investments.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Becky found great joy in simple pleasures. Her hobbies included quilting, gardening, and canning, through which she shared her creativity and warmth with those around her.

In addition to her parents, Becky was preceded in death by her brother Roger Thompson, sisters Virginia Brizidine and Kay Pettit; brothers-in-law, Wayne Rush, Ira Brizidine, Ned Pettit, Buddy Denny and William Campbell; sisters-in-law Eva Rush, Martha Denny, Betsy Thompson, Joyce Thompson

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Guy Rush; daughter Linda Sturgill (Dave); son Willie Rush (Steph  Barker); Joe Wilson (Sandra) who she considered a son. Becky is also remembered fondly by her brothers Wayne Thompson, Troy Thompson(Lois), Jerry Thompson (Brenda); sister Peggy Campbell; sisters-in-law Faye Barrett and Linda Shumaker; brother-in-law, Emmett Rush (Virginia); grandchildren Ashley Strouth, Isaiah Goff, Josie Wilson, Cassie Wilson, Pennie Wilson; four great grandchildren; special nephew Todd Rush; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 11 am until noon at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. The funeral will begin at 12 pm (noon) on Thursday, April 4, 2024 with Brother Roger O'Quinn officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memory Gardens with Joe Wilson, Dave Sturgill, Ben Rush, Joseph Rush, Seth Rush and Isaiah Goff.
