Rita Shilakay "Katie" Stacy-Mullins

Rita Shilakay “Katie” Stacy-Mullins of Abingdon, Virginia was born on December 26, 1949 in Paynesville, West Virginia. She entered into the arms of Jesus on August 10, 2026 at 76 years old. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, kindness, and countless cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Della Stacy; her brother, Sherdon Stacy; and her sister, Yolanda “Harriet” McClanahan.

She is survived by her loving husband of 18 years, Thomas Mullins Jr.; her brother, Coburn “Cobo” Stacy; her three children, Michael Matney (Shawna), Kimberly Cox (Rick), and Autumn Matney-Mullins; and her 11 grandchildren, Allexxis Hall (Stephen), Joshua Matney (Samantha), Dylan Cox, Lauren Roark (Tyler), Jonathan Matney (Brenda), Mariah Flowers, MacKenzie Head (Joshua), Cierra Graham, Reagan Cox, Kiera Graham (Nick), and Summer Matney.

She is also survived by her many great-grandchildren, who filled her life with laughter and love: Elias Hall, Journee Hall, Grayson Roark, Spencer Matney, LouElla Summers, LilyAnn Summers, Walker Summers, Haven Roark, Jasmine Matney, Cora Gilbert, Lainey Kate Roark, and Raveine Mullins. She was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of two more great-grandchildren, Audrey Head and Baby Girl Matney. She is also survived by her two nephews, Danny Stacy and James “Jimbo” McClanahan III, and niece, Della “Liza” Keene. Special cousin, Anita Stanley, along with her dear friend of many years, Sherry Taylor.

Katie’s faith in Jesus Christ was the most important part of who she was. She loved her family fiercely and never took for granted the time she had with the people she loved. She had a special love for the beauty of God’s creation, especially her plants, flowers, and garden. There was something special about watching her tend to the things she loved, nurturing them with the same care and patience she gave to the people in her life. Her home, her garden, and her family were all pieces of the life she cherished so dearly.

Her family was her greatest blessing, and the memories they shared with her will be treasured for years to come. Though they will miss her more than words can express, they can find comfort in knowing that her faith has carried her home to the Lord she loved, and that the love she gave so freely will remain in their hearts forever.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, August 12th, 2026 at Abingdon First Assembly of God located at 250 Phillips St NW Abingdon, Virginia 24210 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with a funeral service following. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 13th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Hills Memory Garden located at 19415 Lee Hwy Abingdon, Virginia 24210. Those wishing to attend the graveside, please arrive to the cemetery by 10:45 a.m.
