Roy Griffith

December 8, 1934 — June 25, 2009

Roy Griffith, 74, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Johnston Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a member of Duncansville Christian Church. He enjoyed fishing and watching NASCAR and loved his family very much. He was a very hard working farmer.
He is survived by one special daughter, Connie Powers and husband Clark of Abingdon; sons, Roy “Buck” Griffith, Jr. and wife Arbetta of Abingdon, James Barrett and wife Sandra, Allen Barrett and wife Meri, and Wayne Barrett, all of Charlotte, NC, and Clay Barrett and wife Nicol of Marshville, NC; one brother, Walker Griffith of Kingsport; one sister, Nannie Margaret Camper of Abingdon; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; and special wife Shirley Barrett of Charlotte.
The funeral service will be conducted Sunday, June 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Bob Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Daniel Shane Griffith, Lucas Powers, Junior Powers, June Alexander, Grady Griffith, Justin Powers, and Mike Sadler. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Duncansville Christian Church.
The family would like to extend their greatest appreciation to Dr. Davis and the staff of Highlands Ear, Nose, and Throat of Bristol for their exceptional care.
