Ruby Hampton Hart, a beloved member of the community, passed away on August 28, 2023, at Commonwealth Senior Living. Ruby was born on March 17, 1934, in Washington County, VA to the late, Noah Hampton and Willie Barlow Hampton. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished forever.
Ruby dedicated over 30 years of her life as an administrative assistant at the International Association of Machinist. Her commitment and hard work exemplified her dedication to her career. She was known for her attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills. Ruby always went above and beyond to ensure that everything ran smoothly.
Beyond her professional achievements, Ruby made a significant impact on the lives of countless individuals through volunteering in her spare time. She taught generations of children in Sunday School at Damascus Road Baptist Church. Her love for teaching and nurturing young minds shone through every lesson she prepared.
After retiring with her loving husband Ernest Cecil Hart, Ruby embarked on an adventure that took them to all 50 states. They treasured their time together, creating memories that will forever be cherished by Ernest and their loved ones.
Outside of work and volunteering, Ruby had many hobbies and interests. She had a passion for needlework and found joy in activities such as crochet, embroidery, and knitting. By employing these creative talents, she crafted beautiful pieces that delighted those who received them as gifts.
One of Ruby's proudest accomplishments was being one of the founding members of Damascus Road Baptist Church. Her faith was an integral part of her life, guiding her actions and bringing comfort to those around her. She approached each day with compassion and kindness towards others.
Ruby is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Ernest Cecil Hart. Their enduring love stood as a testament to their unwavering bond throughout the years. In addition to Ernest, Ruby is also survived by her sister Louise Fletcher and several nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents; infant son; brothers, Robert Hampton, Roy Hampton; sisters Dorothy Hart and Violet Hawthorne.
To honor and remember Ruby's life, visitation services will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Damascus Road Baptist Church, located at 18844 Jeb Stuart Hwy, Abingdon, VA 24211. The funeral service will be at 7:00 PM with Rev. John E. Massey, Jr. and Rev. Caleb Holman officiating. A burial service will take place on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens at 11:00 AM, located at 19415 Lee Hwy, Abingdon, VA 24210, with the Men of Damascus Road Baptist Church serving as pallbearers. Those attending the service at the cemetery are asked to arrive by 10:45 AM.
Ruby Hampton Hart's remarkable legacy will forever be etched in the hearts and minds of all those she touched. Her kindness, compassion, and dedication to her community will continue to inspire us all. May she rest in peace knowing that her impact on this world will never be forgotten.
