Russell Lee Young

Russell Lee Young, born November 9, 1932, passed away on November 29, 2024 at English Meadows. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruby Young; first wife Shirley; second wife Dorothy; brother Norman Young; sisters Vivian Bell and Louise Cross; Beloved brother-in-law Remus Bell and good friend Joseph P. Johnson, Jr. 

He is survived by his children: Mary Moffatt, Paul (Sharon) Young, David (Becky) Young, and Michael (Caroline) Young; grandchildren: Bethany Young, Melanie Young, Scott (Amy) Moffatt, Eric (Heather) Moffatt, Taylor (CJ) Linkous and Bryce Young; great-grandchildren: Hudson Moffatt, Trevor Moffatt, Colette Moffatt and Emersyn Linkous; his brothers Charles Young and Freddie Young, and sister Evelyn Riggle.

He was a special pappaw to Blake Rosenbaum and Kendra (Matthew) Rosenbaum and their children June and Laila Fulton. 

Along with his immediate family, there are numerous nieces and nephews and other family through his marriages to Shirley and Dorothy, and many friends and acquaintances who will greatly miss him.

Russell served in the army, then became a Virginia State trooper serving many years in Washington County Virginia, retiring in 1987. He was a man of God, a loving and proud parent, a man who cared about the needs of others, and was not afraid of hard work. Russell enjoyed time with his family and friends, camping and traveling, listening and singing along to music with his sister and brother-in-law, and square dancing with Shirley and the Golden Nuggets. 

Visitation for Russell will be Monday, December 2, 2024, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held 2:00 Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, officiated by John Sanslow, with Bethany, Melanie, Scott, Eric, Taylor, and Bryce serving as honorary pallbearers.
