Ruth Ann Hughes, age 79, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 26, 2018 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born on March 13, 1938 in Richlands, Va., a daughter of the late Glen Albert and Mary Byrd Davis. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy Ball of Abingdon and Gwendolyn Cox of Richlands. Ruth lived most of her life in the Meadowview area, where she played a large role in the children’s ministry at Rosedale Baptist Church and Fellowship Baptist Church. She was a current member of Galilean Baptist Church. Ruth also enjoyed her career positions at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon Orthopedics, and local Health Departments.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Edgar Dean Hughes of Meadowview, Va.; daughters Lisa Sutherland and husband Rick of Abingdon and Sherrie Stuart and husband George of Meadowview; granddaughters Jaclyn VanHoy and husband Freddie, Keely Jackson and husband T.J., Deana Duffield and husband Dwayne, Jenny Mutter and husband Brian, and Kelsey Chapman; great grandchildren Alex VanHoy, Makayla Morrison, Tateland Jackson, Isabelle Jackson, Logan Mutter, Jacob Mutter, Odin Chapman, Ember Chapman, Ridley Chapman, Bryson Duffield, and soon welcoming a future great great grandchild.
Her first love was the Lord, followed by her husband Dean. She was blessed with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor John Surber officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens, where George Stuart, Rick Sutherland, Dwayne Duffield, Bryson Duffield, Brian Mutter, Jacob Mutter, T.J. Jackson, and Freddie Morrison will serve as casket bearers. Honorary bearers will be the Men of the Galilean Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from Noon until 2:00 PM prior to the service.
