Ruth Countiss, a devoted mother, "grandma", and homemaker whose nurturing spirit touched all who knew her, passed peacefully on June 8, 2026, in Bristol, Tennessee. Ruth was born on July 12, 1930.
Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Henry Countiss; her parents, Frank Lee Johnson and Anne J. Brightwell; and her siblings, Nancy Johnson and Frank Lee Johnson, Jr. Their memories remain forever in the hearts of those who cherished them.
Her legacy lives on through her children, Amy Countiss-Shell, Rebecca Lincoln, Deborah Nunnally, Barbara Anderson, and George Countiss, Jr. Ruth’s spirit flourishes further through her grandchildren, Carly Shell, Collin Shell, Christopher Anderson, Owen Countiss, and Nolan Countiss and also her great grandson, Will Anderson. Ruth was blessed with numerous caregivers over the years who became close friends and family.
A graveside service to honor Ruth’s memory will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, located at 1019 East Valley Drive in Bristol, Virginia. Family and friends will gather to celebrate a lifetime of kindness and strength, bidding farewell to a mother, grandma, and friend whose presence was a blessing.
Ruth Countiss’s life was a quiet testament to the profound impact of care and steadfast love within the home and beyond. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered as a guiding light by all who were fortunate to share in her journey.
