Shirley Riley Westrick

Abingdon, VA – Shirley M. Riley Westrick, age 77, passed on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at her home.  Shirley was born in Tazewell, VA to the late William A. and Lorene Compton Riley.  She worked at Valley Rest Home in Meadowview for many years and was of the Pentecostal Faith. 

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Herman Westrick; daughters, Anetta Ann Hamm; grandson, Randy Hamm; sisters, Cora Ray Phillips and Betty Jane Hunt; and daughter-in-law, Cristal Blevins Hamm. 

She is survived by her children, Joseph Walter Hamm, Jr., Shirley May Parsons and husband Steven, Betty Jane Perry and husband Jay, and her niece who Shirley considered a daughter, Nicole Hall; five brothers, Roger Riley, Jimmy Riley, Carl Riley and wife Shirley, Ernie Riley, and David Riley and wife Pebbles; two sisters, Ruby Self and Annie Cannon; ten grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be held 1-2 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2024. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.  Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Chad Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Ernie Riley, Carl Riley, Jimmy Riley, David Riley, Jay Perry, and Steven Parsons serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ethan Hall, Tyler Hall, Jackie Osborne, Austin Mardis, Brayden Boone, Dakota Butler, and Travis Riley.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Shirley’s daughter, Betty Jane Perry and her husband Jay, for being her main caregiver the last two years.
