Saltville, VA – Stephen E. “Steve” DeBord, age 68, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 6, 2025, at his home. Steve was a 1975 graduate of R.B. Worthy High School and lived several years in Martinsville, VA as a child. He was a former employee of U.S. Gypsum and Mid Mountain Foods.
He enjoyed watching sports and was noticeably a sore loser anytime the Pittsburg Steelers did not prevail. Steve was a firearms enthusiast and member of North Fork Sportsman’s Club where he would often be found at the range discussing politics instead of shooting. He loved sitting in the rocking chair with headphones on listening to classic rock and would often be found reading numerous books of any sort, especially regrding military history.
He was preceded in death by his father, William “Bill” DeBord, and wife, Kimberly Muse DeBord. He is survived by his mother, Peggy Davidson DeBord; three children, Crystal McKemy and husband Jimmy, Stephen DeBord, II, and John DeBord; sisters, Janie Arnold and husband Stanley, and Lisa Whitt and husband Gary; grandchildren, Ethan Landell, Noel McKemy, Aaron DeBord, and Chase McKemy; great granddaughter, Cairo Landell; aunts, Dolly Carter and husband Robert, Lilly Rishner, Susie DeBord, Phyllis Kurpias and husband Zach, and Carolyn Davidson; uncles, Jimmy DeBord and Dan Davidson and wife Shirley; special friend and extraordinary caregiver, Charlotte Warren; life-long friend, Brent Price; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the Church of the Nazarene, 1007 East Main Street, Saltville, VA, with Elder Joe Collins officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Charlotte Warren, Patrick Patterson, Diane Compton, and Brenda Spiva for the wonderful care they gave to Steve. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northfork Sportsman’s Club, 129 Battleground Ave, Saltville, VA 24370, or to the Church of the Nazarene, 1007 East Main Street, Saltville, VA, in Steve’s name.
