Sue Starnes Munsey, 94 years young,entered the gates of Heaven on August 4, 2025. She was born April 13, 1931 in Honaker, VA to the late Charles and Jeanette Jackson Starnes. She married Bill Reid Munsey, also of Honaker, in 1950. They were married more than 70 years until his death in 2021.
Sue is survived by three devoted children: Deborah Munsey of Meadowview, VA, Susan Weaver and husband Jack, and Michael Munsey and wife Margie all of Abingdon,VA, three loving grandchildren: Laura Wilson and Husband Alex and Isaac Munsey all of Abingdon, VA and Heather DeLong and Husband Rob of New York City. Two precious Great-Granddaughters, Alyssa and Emma Wilson. One Special Sister, who she raised, JoAnne Smith, of California, one brother, Dallas Starnes and wife Peggy of Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Sue was predeceased by her husband Bill Reid Munsey and four brothers, Otto, Luther,Robert, and Donald Starnes
She was a devoted wife, and loving mother, a talented artist, and a successful entrepreneur. From childhood, Sue had a passion for creating art. Through the years, her paintings were displayed at Abingdon Arts Depot, The Virginia Highlands Festival, Bristol Herald Courier Art Show, and her retirement community in Florida; but her art is most proudly displayed in the homes of her children and grandchildren.
In mid-life, Sue transferred her talent with Art to the faces of countless women in her community. She pioneered Mary Kay Cosmetics in Southwest, VA. Before her retirement, she was supervising a sales force of more than 80 women making our community a little more beautiful one face at a time. She will be remembered cruising the streets of Abingdon in her Mary Kay Pink Cadillac. Sue carried herself with grace and a strong sense of fashion and style. She loved hats and the right color meant everything to her.
She was baptized in the river at Blackford in Russell County. She was a long time member of Abingdon Baptist Church where she taught five year olds about Jesus in both Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Sue’s warmth and affection toward her family and friends, often expressed through her exceptional cooking, will be fondly remembered. She always prioritized her family and leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity to all those whose lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to Abingdon Baptist Church, 361 W. Main Street, Abingdon, VA.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:50 p.m. at the Knollkreg Mausoleum on Monday, August, 11, 2025 with a crypt side to follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Bill Bryan officiating.
