Sylvia graduated in 1975 from Patrick Henry High School, Glade Springs, Va. She earned a BA in 1980 from Berea College, Berea, KY. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Nashville, TN where she was a long-time volunteer with the church pantry and food share. Due to illness, Sylvia relocated to Tri-Cities, TN in January 2023 and attended Jubilee World Outreach, Johnson City, TN.
She was an avid football fan. She never took to the Tennessee Titans. Instead, for several years she was a loyal Seahawks fan and greatly enjoyed trading stats and predictions with Titan fans while going about Nashville in her Seahawks paraphernalia.
Sylvia had an extremely close relationship with her entire family. She especially took seriously her role as “Auntie” to her niece and nephew from infant stage to current day. She was blessed to be lovingly guided by her sister Geri through her medical multiple strokes’ journey: hospital, rehab, residing with Geri (Allison), physical therapy, Nashville move, Abundant Christian Living Community (an independent living, assisted living, rehabilitative & long term care facility) in Johnson City. Geri was her constant anchor and support until the very end.
