Sylvia Logan

January 23, 1957 — June 28, 2024

Johnson City,TN

Sylvia Logan, 67, was born January 23, 1957, in Abingdon, Va.  She was the fifth of six children and was born to the late Erkward Logan, Sr. and Lonnie Smith Logan. Sylvia was also preceded in death by her brother, Erkward Logan, Jr.

Sylvia graduated in 1975 from Patrick Henry High School, Glade Springs, Va. She earned a BA in 1980 from Berea College, Berea, KY. After working locally several years in Abingdon, Va and Blountville, TN, Sylvia moved to Nashville, TN to work for The Crump Group. She later transferred to Sedgwick to assume a Customer Service role and retired from Sedgwick March 2023.

Sylvia accepted Christ at an early age while attending A.M.E. Zion Church, Meadowview, Va. She was a loyal member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Nashville, TN where she was a long-time volunteer with the church pantry and food share. Due to illness, Sylvia relocated to Tri-Cities, TN in January 2023 and attended Jubilee World Outreach, Johnson City, TN.

She was an avid football fan. She never took to the Tennessee Titans. Instead, for several years she was a loyal Seahawks fan and greatly enjoyed trading stats and predictions with Titan fans while going about Nashville in her Seahawks paraphernalia.

Sylvia had an extremely close relationship with her entire family. She especially took seriously her role as “Auntie” to her niece and nephew from infant stage to current day. She was blessed to be lovingly guided by her sister Geri through her medical multiple strokes’ journey: hospital, rehab, residing with Geri (Allison), physical therapy, Nashville move, Abundant Christian Living Community (an independent living, assisted living, rehabilitative & long term care facility) in Johnson City. Geri was her constant anchor and support until the very end.

Sylvia was a loving and caring daughter, sister, and aunt. She is survived by two brothers, John Logan (Mildred) of Charlotte, NC and Dr. David Logan (Louise) of College Park, GA; two sisters, Geri Mitchell (Allison) of Kingsport, TN and Phyllis Paige (Nathan) of Chicago, IL; one uncle, Rev. William Austin (Ann) of Abingdon, Va; one nephew, Jonathan Mitchell (Whitney) of Chesapeake, Va; one niece, Logan Paige of Chicago, IL, and a host of cousins, friends, professional colleagues, and long-term neighbors.
