Terri Hinchey

Terri Hinchey, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at her home in Abingdon, Virginia, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 8, 1941, in Galax, Virginia, Terri spent her early years living in multiple states as part of a proud military family, an experience that shaped her resilience and adaptability.

Terri spent most of her life in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she built deep roots and lasting friendships. For the past 34 years, she made her home in Abingdon, where she continued to be surrounded by family, community, and the quiet beauty she cherished.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Hinchey, who passed away on July 23, 2021, after a devoted life together.

Terri leaves behind her daughter, Kimberly Galloway of Abingdon, VA; her grandchildren, Rodney Noland of Abingdon, VA, and Nicholas Noland and his wife, Lauren Noland, of Midlothian, VA; and her two beautiful great‑grandchildren, Bryson Noland and Avery Lynn Noland. Terri adored her grandchildren—they were truly the light of her life.

Terri dedicated many years to early childhood education, working as a schoolteacher in Virginia Beach, where her patience, warmth, and gentle guidance touched the lives of countless young children. After moving to Abingdon, she continued her lifelong commitment to helping others through her work at the Abingdon Senior Center, where she supported and uplifted the community for many years.

A devoted animal lover, Terri cared for five dogs and numerous cats—many of them strays who found comfort, safety, and love in her home. Her compassion extended to every living being she encountered.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Tamitha Griffith, Erica Felty, Rhonda and Morgan Morris, and Brittany Mann, cherished family friends whose support meant so much. They also wish to thank Elite Hospice for the care and comfort they provided during Terri’s final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 24,2026 at her residence from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., where family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor Terri’s life.
