Abingdon, VA

Theodore Wayne Lawson, affectionately known as Ted, passed away on March 17, 2026, in Abingdon, Virginia. Born on April 10, 1960, Ted led a life marked by dedication, both personally and professionally, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Ted pursued his education at Northeast Community State College, where he laid the foundation for a career that would span nearly two decades at Kennametal. For 18 years, he contributed his skills and commitment to the company, earning respect from colleagues and peers alike. His work ethic and gentle spirit were hallmarks of his character and continue to inspire those who remember him.

Ted was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Lewis and Mary Virginia Casto Lawson; his devoted wife, Naomi Faye Lawson; and his sons, Christopher Michael Lawson and Timothy Ryan Lawson. Their memory remains a vital part of his story and the deep connections he held throughout his life.

Surviving Ted are his siblings—Rick Lawson residing in California, Eddie Lawson of Ohio, Michael Lawson of Florida, and Ellen Henline of West Virginia—each carrying forward his spirit in their own lives. He also leaves behind treasured grandchildren: Chandler Lawson, Whitney Lawson, Abigail Lawson of Bristol, Virginia, Ryan Lawson, Cobain Salyer and Harper Salyer, who brought light and happiness to his later years.

Among those who held a special place in his heart were his daughter-in-law, Christina Walden, and sister-in-law, Judy Poe. Ted’s family circle was enriched by numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom experienced his kindness and warmth firsthand.

Ted’s life was defined by his love for family and the quiet strength with which he faced life’s challenges. His presence enriched the lives of many, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him. As we reflect respectfully on his journey, we honor a man whose legacy will endure through the family and friends who cherish him profoundly.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, March 22, 2026, in the Gathering Place Church.
