Thomas S. “Tommy” Richardson went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday July 27, 2023. He was born in Saltville, Virginia August 9, 1939, to the late Stephen Glen Richardson and Mary Jane Lowery Richardson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Skeen Richardson, and eight siblings, William “Franklin” Richardson, Cora Lee Faust, Robert “Bobby” Richardson, Janie Reynolds, Mabel Eller, Joann Casey, Douglas “Mac” Richardson and Linda Holcomb.
Tommy is survived by his two sons, Stephen Richardson and wife Patricia, and Bart Richardson and wife Danielle; five grandchildren, Thomas, Joshua, Micah, Elizabeth and Jonathan; his girlfriend of twenty-three years, Ellen Brown and her son Jody and wife Debbie Brown and her granddaughter Joetta Combs and husband Matthew; and many nieces and nephews.
His family moved to Abingdon, Virginia in 1943 where he attended William King High School. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U. S Army from 1956-1959, serving in Germany for 2 ½ years and was deployed in operation Blue Bat in Beirut Lebanon in 1958. He was a truck driver working for Smith’s Transfer and retired from Columbus McKinnon. Tommy was a member of High Point Baptist Church where he got saved in 1961. He served as Deacon, Song Leader and Sunday School Teacher for many years. He enjoyed singing gospel, country and bluegrass music.
Visitation will be from 3-5 pm Saturday July 29, 2023, at High Point Baptist Church, 18255 Limestone Drive, Meadowview, Virginia. Funeral services will follow at 5:00 pm with the Reverend Dr. David Critcher and Pastor Robby Coggins officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Park, 21674 Monroe Road, Damascus, Virginia 24236. Military rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia Army National Guard. Pallbearers will be Thomas Richardson, Joshua Richardson, Micah Richardson, Elizabeth Richardson, and Jonathan Richardson.
