Todd D. Campbell, of Abingdon, VA, was born on May 20, 1953, in San Jose, CA and passed away on August 14, 2026, at the age of 73.
Todd was preceded in death by his parents, Colin and Jane Campbell; his older brother, Bruce Campbell; his first wife, Shelley Switzer Campbell; and his in-laws, Fred and Shirley Switzer. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Kathy) Campbell; his son, Brian Campbell (Nabeela Aijaz); and his daughter, Laura Campbell (Jason Fisher and stepson Ethan).
Todd grew up in Fullerton, CA, where he met Shelley Switzer, who would become his first wife (m. 1976–2012). He went on to earn his bachelor's degree from UC Irvine and later his master's degree from Cal State Fullerton. Todd and Shelley married in 1976 and together raised two children. Their son, Brian, was born in 1985, and their daughter, Laura, was born in 1992. The family of four settled in Petaluma, CA, where Todd raised his children.
Todd's work later brought him to Colorado, where he met his second wife, Kathy. They married in 2017 and relocated together to Abingdon, VA. Kathy has 3 children, Kimberly Thomas, Paige Diller (Andrew Diller), and Hunter Thomas (Kirsten Thomas).
Todd's career was especially important to him, focused on heart valves, stents, and other medical technology. He began his career hand-sewing heart valves and went on to do work he was deeply proud of, helping make medical procedures safer for others. His work took him all over the world, and wherever his travels led, he always made time to explore local sites and took a particular interest in local art. He also had a soft spot for animals throughout his life, welcoming a range of them into his home — from rescue dogs to Great Danes — but cats especially seemed to gravitate toward him, always ready to curl up in his lap. Outside of work, Todd had a lifelong love of cars, from restoring classic 1950s Chevy Bel Airs to enjoying fast sports cars, with a special fondness for Porsches. We suspect Todd wasted no time finding a Porsche and speeding down the nearest scenic route in heaven.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
