Virginia Lee Farris

Chilhowie, VA – Virginia Lee Rector Farris, age 86, went to her Heavenly home on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. A graduate of R.B. Worthy High School, Virginia continued her education at Emory & Henry College where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education. She was a schoolteacher for over 27 years where she spent most of her career at Damascus Elementary School.

Virginia and her late husband, Carl Edward Farris, loved to travel and visited all 48 of the contiguous states. She enjoyed hiking and gardening and was a former member of the Chilhowie Gardening Club. Virginia was a faithful and active member of Chilhowie Methodist Church until her health declined.

In addition to her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Lee Rector and Lucy Johnson Rector; and four siblings, J.B., Jean, Carolyn, and Grace. She leaves behind to cherish her memory two children, Michael Farris and Karen Farris; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be held 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow at 6:30 p.m. with Rev. Mark McFadden officiating. Committal services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in Westwood Memorial Gardens in Chilhowie, VA. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Farris and Scott Stanifer.
