Virginia Ellen Williams

Virginia Ellen Williams, born Virginia Ellen Haywood on May 15, 1940, in Lebanon, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, whose gentle spirit and unwavering devotion touched all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Virginia was the cherished daughter of the late James Walker Haywood and Lucy Price Haywood. She was raised in Lebanon, VA where she formed deep roots and a strong sense of family that guided her throughout her life. Virginia’s early years were shaped by the warm support and camaraderie of her large family, with many siblings whose memories and love remained with her throughout her days.

Throughout her life, Virginia embraced the roles of motherhood and family nurturer with grace. She is survived by her devoted son, Mike Williams, and his supportive wife, Diana. Virginia was the loving sister of Nell Burnette and leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

Virginia’s legacy extends through generations. She is warmly remembered by her grandchildren, Graydon, Danielle, Rhiannon, Sara, and Claire, whose lives have been enriched by her loving guidance and wisdom. Her great-grandchildren—Olivia, Emry, and Charles Randall—also shared in the joy of her presence and will cherish her memory for years to come.

She is reunited in rest with her beloved husband, James Henley Williams; son, Larry Thomas; and her siblings James, Charlie, John, Garnett, Cecil, Dewey, Don, Henry, Earnest, and Mary Smith, who all predeceased her. The bonds Virginia shared with her family were steadfast, and their memories will forever echo in the stories they told and the love they shared.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate Virginia's remarkable life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, located at 19415 Lee Hwy, Abingdon, VA 24210. Evanglist Eddie Gobble will officiate.
