Walter Clinton Poston

May 26, 1933 — October 12, 2025

Walter Clinton Poston, born on May 26, 1933, in Russell County, Virginia, peacefully passed away at his home, with his wife, Helen and dog, Susie by his side, on October 12, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Walter lived a life characterized by hard work, love, and laughter.

Spending his entire working career in construction, Walter dedicated himself to building not just structures but also lasting relationships within his community. He was a member of the IBEW local union #637 for 60 years. His colleagues and friends remember him for his kindness and welcoming nature, always making others feel at ease. Walter had a great sense of humor, bringing lightness and joy to those around him.

He had a variety of interests that brought him immense satisfaction over the years. An avid fan of yardwork and gardening, he found peace and fulfillment in tending to the earth. Walter loved watching baseball, football, and NASCAR, often spending late nights captivated by Westerns on television. Most of all, he cherished the moments spent with his loving wife, Helen Henderson Poston, whom he adored for 67 years. Together they created a beautiful life, living in Abingdon, Glade Spring, Florida and Rosedale. He and Helen enjoyed living eight years in Florida before moving to Rosedale, Virginia, and they continued to winter in Florida for twelve more years.

Walter proudly served in the United States Army, a testament to his dedication to his country and his community. He actively participated in Rosedale Baptist Church, where he formed deep connections that enriched his life.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, George Leonard Poston and Maude Jane Terry Poston; son, Jeffrey Allen Poston; siblings Winfred Poston, John Poston, Roscoe Poston, Charlie Poston, Edith Price and Leola Price.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Helen, along with their grandchildren, Jessica Poston and Stephen Poston, and great-grandchild, Jeffrey Poston and sister, Jean Jackson. Walter leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his warm spirit and unwavering support.

A visitation will be held on October 14, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Mount Rose Cemetery-Mausoleum in Glade Spring, Virginia, followed by a cryptside service from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM.

The family would like to thank Legacy Hospice-Richlands and Roxie Artrip for the loving care provided to Walter.

Walter Clinton Poston will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. His legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to family and friends will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
