William Preston Porter

William Preston "Ricky" Porter, passed away on June 18, 2026, in Duffield, Virginia. He born on March 17, 1955, in Washington County, Virginia. His passing marks the conclusion of a life devoted to hard work, community, and quiet diligence.

A proud graduate of Patrick Henry High School, Ricky fostered values of dedication and integrity from an early age. These values were evident throughout his career, which saw him serving his community through roles with the Town of Glade Spring and Emory & Henry College, both in maintenance. In each position, Ricky contributed meaningfully, displaying reliability and a strong sense of responsibility that endeared him to colleagues and the broader community.

Ricky was preceded in death by his daughter, Ashley Porter; infant grandson, Domonta O'Brian Milliner; mother, Jean Straton Porter, and one sister, Margaret Hounshell. 

Ricky is survived by his son, Leon Porter; siblings, Ruth "Shimmey" Ross and Guy "Mousey" Porter; several nieces and nephews and a lot of good friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Farris Funeral Service – Main Street Chapel, located at 427 E Main St, Abingdon, VA 24210.

William Preston Porter's legacy is one of earnest service and quiet contribution. He will be remembered with respect by those who had the privilege to know him, and his work and character stand as a testament to a life lived with humility and purpose.
