Goodbye Old Pal….

William Harold Puckett, peacefully passed away on December 10, 2023, in his hometown of Abingdon. Born on September 19, 1944, in Abingdon, to the late Earl Leslie Puckett and Leta Frances Mitchell Puckett. Harold was the epitome of a hardworking and dedicated individual. He leaves behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and deep passion for family, farming and hunting.

Harold's journey in life was shaped by his profound love for the land. He worked at Robert’s Tire and Recapping for several years. For most of his life, he dedicated himself to farming at Highland Dairy Farm for over 35 years, where he found joy and fulfillment. Tending to the soil brought him a sense of purpose that was unmatched. His commitment to nurturing the earth left an indelible mark on the community he cherished.

Not only was Harold a skilled farmer but also an avid hunter. He embarked on numerous hunting expeditions out west, seeking adventure amidst nature's beauty. Trips where he pursued elk, mule deer, and wild boar. These memories became treasures that added richness to his life.

Beyond his professional pursuits, family held an extraordinary place in Harold's heart. He shared countless beautiful moments with his beloved sweetie pie, his wife Judy Puckett, to whom he was deeply devoted. Their unwavering bond served as an inspiration to all who knew them.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his son Doug Puckett; siblings Norma Jean McReynolds and Ralph Lee Puckett.

Survivors include his wife Judy Carol Russell Puckett, brother Charles Puckett (Melia), granddaughter, Ashlee Hill (Justin); great grandson, Denny Harold Hill; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Puckett-Wingate; sister-in-law Sandy Puckett; brother-in-law, Ed McReynolds; special niece Amber Spahr (Zachary); special great nephews Jesse Spahr, Skylar Gunn, JT and Aidan; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Harold was overjoyed with the birth of his granddaughter Ashlee Hill, whose very existence brought immense happiness to his heart, eventually becoming his hunting buddy. They formed a special bond strengthened by their shared love for hunting and the great outdoors. Moreover, the birth of his great-grandson Denny Harold Hill added immeasurable joy to Harold's life.

Harold Puckett will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to farming, his passion for hunting, and above all else, his unwavering devotion to family and friends. His warm smile, gentle nature, and compassionate spirit touched the lives of many. Harold's memory will forever remain etched in our hearts as we celebrate a life well-lived.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Puckett Family Cemetery, 19496 Vance’s Mill Rd, Abingdon, VA with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. Pallbearers will be Kris Kilby, Rena Johnson, Glen Farris, Terry Warden, Andy Puckett, and Jared Puckett. Honorary pallbearers Bill Farris, Dave Johnson & Family, Employees of Highland Dairy, Bill Corns, Tim Hearndon, Roy Price, Rick Johnson, Joe Cooper and James Wyatt. 

The family would like to thank Dr. Chotas, Dr. Crisp, Dr. Davis and the 3rd floor nurses and staff at Johnston Memorial Hospital, as well as, Abingdon Cancer Center, whose care and concern was a great comfort.
