Wilma Mae Miller

Wilma Mae Dunn Miller passed away on September 27, 2026, in Abingdon, Virginia, at the age of 98.

Born on September 13, 1928, to the late Hattie Blevins Dunn and Robert Dunn, Wilma was raised during the Depression in the Extract Community of Damascus alongside her 11 siblings. Those early years helped shape the determined spirit and strong work ethic that remained with her throughout her life. She had a strong will to live, and she was known as someone who never complained. Her steady nature, resilience, and dedication were evident in the way she cared for her home, her family, and the life she built.

Wilma was an impeccable dresser whose clothing was always perfect and beautiful. She took great pride in her home, keeping it spotless, and when she and her husband welcomed guests, the table presentation was always beautiful. She was also an amazing cook, and her gifts of hospitality and care were felt by those who spent time with her.

She loved her time working as the cosmetic sales clerk at People's Drug in the Maryland and DC area, a role that was a meaningful part of her life. Wilma also found joy in beauty in many forms. She was a lifelong member of the Garden Club, where she won numerous blue ribbons for her flowers, a reflection of both her talent and the care she gave to all she nurtured.

Her faith was an important part of her life, and she loved reading her Bible. Wilma was a member of First Baptist Church of Damascus, the church her father helped build while the family lived in Damascus. When she was no longer able to attend in person, she continued to enjoy watching Charles Stanley preach on television.

In addition to her parents and siblings, Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Miller, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage before his passing in 2014, and by her daughter, Kathy Rhudy. Their memories remained a cherished part of her life and story.

Wilma is survived by her grandson, Sam Rhudy II, and his wife, Crystal Rhudy, and her grand-dog, Tucker; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A graveside service for Wilma Mae Miller will be held on September 30, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, 19415 Lee Hwy, Abingdon, Virginia 24210, with Jason Dunn officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Latham, Butch Buettner, Eddie Davidson, Jack Stewart, Bryan Hall, and John Humphreys.

The family would like to thank Hella Davidson, Mary Gilbert, Shelby Edwards, Anna Eichler, Evelyn Kilby, Judy Duncan, Kim Hilliard, Mary Browning, Elite Hospice, Cris Craft, and Taylor Boyd for their friendship and loving care.

Wilma will be remembered for her strength, grace, faith, hospitality, and the beauty she brought to everyday life.
