Our dedicated staff are here to provide support, compassion, and information to help you through your journey of grief and the celebration of your loved one’s life.

We understand that losing a loved one is difficult and the process of planning services can be overwhelming. Our staff is available around the clock, and you may call us at any time with questions or concerns. Our caring team is ready to assist you in creating a service or gathering that truly reflects your loved one's unique life as well as one that brings your family encouragement and support. We are also available after the time of death with aftercare and bereavement support for as long as you need us.

Kimberly Farris Luke President/Owner

Graduated from Abingdon High School; obtained her B.S. in Psychology at the University of Richmond and her MBA at the University of South Carolina; has completed extensive graduate-level education in Social Work and Christian Counseling. Longtime active member of Woodland Hills Christian Church in Abingdon, Virginia; has served on boards of several local non-profit organizations; is a frequent speaker about grief, natural burials & cremations, and end-of-life planning; earned certification as Death and Grief Educator from Center for Loss; and is currently serving as Board Member with Selected Independent Funeral Homes, an international organization.

Graduate of William King High School. Attended Lincoln Memorial University and Emory and Henry College, then graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Has served in many leadership capacities including President of the Virginia Funeral Directors Association, Chair of the Virginia Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers, President of the Board of Selected Independent Funeral Homes (formerly National Selected Morticians); has served on a variety of local civic organizations; former member of Rotary Club; longtime member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church and the Highlands Emmaus Community; enjoys riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, spending time at the beach, and exercising on the Virginia Creeper Trail.

Graduate of William King High School and attended Johnston Memorial School of Nursing; licensed funeral director since the early 1970’s; longtime member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church and Highlands Emmaus Community; enjoys collecting antiques and spending time with family.

Mike Farris General Manager

Mike graduated from Abingdon High School and the Virginia Military Institute (VMI). After graduation from VMI, he served in the U.S.A.F.; attaining the rank of Captain.  Following his time of serving his country, he completed his apprenticeship for funeral service. He attended and graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, and received his funeral service license in 1982. Mike attends Glade Spring Presbyterian Church at Old Glade with his wife, Jo Anne Brannon.  His favorite pastime is cooking meals and treats to share with his neighbors and friends.

Amanda hails from Harriman, Tenn. and graduated from John A. Gupton College in Nashville. She is currently pursuing her B.S. in mortuary science from Southern Illinois University.  She and her husband, Matthew, live in Abingdon and enjoy spending time with their rescue dog, Lulu.

In 2017, the family celebrated the 30th anniversary of the founding of their business, Surber & Son, an old-fashioned hardware and general store, located in the Glade Spring town square. Gloria enjoys hiking, reading, antiques, and spending time with family.
